Unemployment in Barry and the Vale has fallen to a claimant count of 3.7%, according to the latest data from the Office of National Statistics. Vale MP, Alun Cairns has welcomed the news stating that he was pleased to see the long term economic plan having a real impact locally.
The number of unemployed claimants in the Vale of Glamorgan constituency in May 2014 was 1,757. This represents a rate of 3.7% of local people aged 16 to 24. The number of claimants in the Vale is 362 lower than in April 2013 and 110 lower than in April 2014.
Commenting on the latest figures, Mr Cairns said:
“Yet again these figures are welcome news. It continues the downward trend and I am pleased that the long term economic plan is having an impact locally.
“It means people can plan more securely and with optimism. This is great news for everyone.
“I’m keen to make sure that the issues raised with me by small businesses and traders across the Vale are heard in government and that changes can be made to best support our entrepreneurs and small business owners grow their companies.”
