Vale MP Alun Cairns has described a day centre for Vale of Glamorgan residents with physical disabilities in Barry as an “inspiration” after a recent visit.
Mr Cairns met with the group at New Horizons Day Centre in Barry to better understand how the team helps residents of all ages with physical disabilities continue to develop skills in crafts, music and fitness. The group meets on a daily basis, and plays an important social role for people with a wide range of physical challenges.
Louise Payne, acting day service manager said: “The Vale of Glamorgan council’s New Horizons Day Service provides vital services for physically disabled people living in the county. We help people reach their personal goals in a safe and encouraging environment. Our committed staff provide a wide range of activities that are both therapeutic and life enhancing, and ensure that there is never a dull moment at New Horizons.”
Mr Cairns said: “The visit to the New Horizons Club in Barry was an inspirational visit. It was wonderful to see such creativity and impressive achievements by people from all walks of life and background. Some members of the group have lived with the physical challenges for many years, and some have encountered more recent problems – but what is most impressive is that they are all treated with equal care and welcomed into such an inspiring group.”
