Better Broadband for the Vale Campaign

Information:
Since my election just 8 weeks ago, a week hasn’t yet passed when I haven’t received a complaint about the poor quality Broadband capacity across the Vale.

It is a significant problem in the rural villages but is also relevant to parts of Barry and Llantwit, and I’m keen to hear from you about any broadband delivery or connection issues that you may have living and working in the Vale.

Though Barry has the good fortune of being one of the early ‘Super Fast Broadband’ towns noted by BT Openreach – the part of the BT group that is responsible for the network.  Improving broadband link to the rural Vale however, is a different challenge, as villages like Colwinston or Llancarfan will not have the demand to warrant a private company from investing tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds to improve the service.

There is a need for government support on this and though European Money is being used in other rural parts of Wales, the Vale of Glamorgan is again ruled out of this funding.

The Minister in Westminster plans to spend the money that was previously used for Digital television switchover to improve broadband.  It is not yet clear how that money will be allocated but it is important that we shout the loudest.

Please do let me know, using the form below,  if you, your business or your community are having specific problems and I will collate the data to make the strongest possible case to BT’s Openreach business.
