HOSPITAL trusts serving patients in the Vale are facing combined deficits of £90m, Vale of Glamorgan Conservative parliamentary candidate Alun Cairns has revealed.
Mr Cairns said that apart from the £30m shortfall facing the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg Trust, which was highlighted in last week’s Gem, a further £60m black hole has opened up in the finances of the Cardiff and Vale Trust.
NEWS that the South Wales main line to Swansea is to be electrified has been welcomed by regional AM Alun Cairns.
But he warned that it was unclear at this stage how the funding for the £1.1bn project would be provided – especially in the light of the swingeing public spending cuts which will have to be introduced by whichever party wins the next election.
NEWS that South Wales Police has lost over 100 officers in less than a year has rung alarm bells for regional Conservative AM Alun Cairns.
He said he was concerned to see that between September 2008 and March this year, the number of full time officers in the force fell by 105 from 3251 to 3146.
