Steps, exercise, food and a tan PDF Print E-mail

Pedometer update – I am still hitting 12 to 15,000 steps a day (about 5 miles), but still not losing any weight.  In fact, I am putting it on!

Although I am walking more than usual, I am also eating a lot more than usual and not at regular times.  -Fast food is party to blame but I hold the Deli on High Street in Barry responsible.  It is just fantastic and I thoroughly recommend it.

I also look as though I have been on an exotic holiday.  The sun has been shining every day and I have managed to gain a tan.

On the point of great exercise, if anyone wants to join us campaigning, please let us know at the Barry office – 01446 733516 or just e-mail me.  Of course, you don’t have to eat as much as I seem to be but I would suggest some sun protection.

D-15 Hustings PDF Print E-mail

We’ve had a number of hustings by now but last night’s at Barry Comprehensive School was the best attended.  I understand that over 200 people had applied for tickets and it was clear that more than 150 turned up.

I must say that Barry Comprehensive School is an excellent school.  The way the pupils welcomed us was first class.  They were courteous, intelligent, instructive and well organised.  Many asked questions during the meeting.  I am not sure if my answers pleased them all but when we had coffee afterwards they were all keen to engage.

A number have come to complete their work experience in my office.  I received a few requests last night and hope they can join me at some stage.

I also want to pay tribute to Mr Swallow (including his wife, Claire, who made the cakes!), Mr Phillips, who chaired the event and all teachers, governors and pupils involved.  It was a first class occasion putting politicians to the test.

The event reminded me of the Cameron Direct meeting that was held in the same school hall some 15 months ago.  Cameron Direct was a public meeting aimed at non-Conservatives and almost 250 turned up to question him.

It was a fantastic success (with a number of hostile questions) and as I knock doors around the Vale, people often refer to it, saying how refreshing the meeting was – a political leader talking to real people!

The future is not Brown PDF Print E-mail

News coverage over the weekend was interesting.  The trouble with campaigning all day every day is that as a candidate, you don’t get to see too many news reports.

Last night, however, I was watching the Sky news update that showed clips of the three party leaders.

Cameron was shown broadcasting the PPB.  Clegg was shown speaking to students and Brown was shown at a press conference.

I felt that Brown looked dated and that since the TV debate, matters have moved on leaving him standing.

It now seems to be a debate between Clegg and Cameron – not to be PM but for confidence of the electorate.  I believe that when David Cameron reasserts himself (as seen by the public), many of those who left Labour after last Thursday could be attracted to the Conservatives.

They have made the decision to leave Labour, which is significant.  We now need to give them the confidence to come to us.

Over to you, David!
