Alun Cairns Reinstated

ALUN Cairns has been reinstated as the Welsh Conservatives’ Parliamentary candidate for the Vale of Glamorgan, the party announced this afternoon.

Mr Cairns has also been appointed Shadow Local Government Minister in the National Assembly by Opposition leader Nick Bourne.

Alun Cairns joins Shadow Cabinet

OPPOSITION leader Nick Bourne AM this evening announced a mini shadow cabinet reshuffle of the Welsh Conservatives’ frontbench Assembly team.

South Wales West AM Alun Cairns has been appointed Shadow Local Government Minister replacing Monmouth AM Nick Ramsay who moves to finance.

Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire AM Angela Burns is given a post as Shadow Transport and Regeneration Minister on top of her chairmanship of the Assembly’s finance committee. All other portfolios remain unchanged.

Local Government Settlement bad news for taxpayers

Commenting on the revenue settlements for local authorities, announced, this morning by the Local Government Minister, Tory AM has condemned the amount of funding provided and calls the settlement bad news for council tax payers.

Local Government Minister, Brian Gibbons, this morning outlined the amount of funding the Welsh Assembly Government will be providing councils across Wales. The increase in funding is well below inflation and amounts to a cut in funding for local authorities.

Porthcawl loses out on Regeneration Funding

Commenting on the statement by the Welsh Regeneration Minister, which created a new Strategic Regeneration Area in North Wales, Tory AM Alun Cairns has said that the Government has clearly abandoned Porthcawl.

Regeneration Minister, Leighton Andrews, announced that Rhyl and Colwyn Bay have become a Strategic Regeneration Area, joining the Heads of the Valleys, however Porthcawl has missed out.

School bus safety plans rejected by Assembly Government

COMMENTING on the outcome of the Learner Travel Measure vote in the National Assembly this evening, Alun Cairns AM led the debate for the Welsh Conservatives said:

“This is bitterly disappointing. The Assembly Government has sold pupils and parents short.

“The amendments tabled were to make sure that all children were taken to their school of choice in the safest possible way.

“But Labour and Plaid rejected them.
