Alun Cairns MP joins #TheGlovesAreOn campaign

Local MP Alun Cairns has pledged his support to Soraya Kelly’s  #TheGlovesAreOn campaign.

Mum of four, Soraya, discovered a lump in her breast at the end of 2017. Soraya has since had a lumpectomy at Llandough Hospital and undergone four weeks of radiotherapy but is now in remission and taking Tamoxifen.

Using her own experience Soraya has set up social media campaign #TheGlovesAreOn to raise awareness of the importance of early detection in all types of cancers to increase survival rates and is working with Alun Cairns to spread the word.

Alun said of the meeting

“It is great to see Soraya using a difficult experience to have a positive influence on others.   Early detection of cancer is essential to help increase survival rates and I would encourage everyone in the Vale to be aware of the signs and to raise any concerns with their GP.”

“Soraya’s case also highlights the importance of having access to the right drugs.   We are both delighted that women in Wales will now have access to three new drugs: Perjeta, Palbociclib and Ribociclib - known to extend life expectancy, following a long campaign with the Breast Cancer Now charity. ”

“I am determined to work with Soraya and hope she inspires others to be more aware of the early signs of cancer and to recognise that talking about cancer really can help to save lives.”
