Alun Cairns MP recently took part in a Siginstone Desert Island Discs evening at the village hall. The Vale MP was interviewed by Mark Whitehead and local residents heard his favourite music and the background behind the choices.
Alun Cairns’s choices included the first single he ever bought, Pink Floyd’s Another Brick in the Wall, although he also confessed that on the same day he also purchased Grandma by St Winifred’s School Choir! Other choices included Bob Dylan’s Times They are a Changin’, The Carpenters singing Close to you, Whiter Shades of Pale by Procol Harem, the Welsh hymn, Pantyfedwen and Zadoc the Priest by Handel.
He said that his luxury would be a trumpet, an instrument he is keen to learn and his chosen book would be Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations.
Mr Cairns said:
“It was a lovely evening and a great way to get to know the local community even better. I would like to thank all those who organised and planned the occasion, including Alan Beckwith and Mark who acted as Kirsty Young.
“Choosing my 6 favourite tracks was so difficult.
“The dinner was first class and thanks to all those who attended.”
