Vale MP has welcomed Taylor Wimpey’s withdrawal of their planning application to develop 200 houses on Green Farm, Barry.
Mr Cairns, who worked closely with the Friends of Weycock Cross group said that the withdrawal of the planning application was encouraging news, although he suggested that the community group should remain cautious in case of a direct appeal to the Welsh Government.
He said, “This is a great success for the local community and residents. I pay tribute to Frank and Debra Cleland and their supporters for their work in this. I can recall meeting Frank and Debra at my office some months ago, when it all seemed that the development was almost inevitable. From that meeting, we got a group up and running, with a website and campaign group.
“The public meetings they organised and the campaign that they ran was first class. On one occasion we met at 8am on a Saturday to plan our activity.
“I am aware that other developers have also appealed to the Welsh Government and we need to be cautious of this. Wenvoe is one such example but this at least appears to be very positive.”
