Two local charities will share £8,393 after Vale residents donated money to support the 2015 marathon run by Vale MP Alun Cairns.
It is a record amount raised by the Vale MP for pet charity PDSA and Macmillan Cancer Care. Mr Cairns finished as the fastest MP during the run in April. Mr Cairns has now completed his fourth marathon, raising over £20,000 for a number of local charities in the process.
In Barry, the PDSA and Macmillan Cancer Care will benefit from the fundraising. The PDSA provides support for pensioners and means tested pet care for families across the Vale of Glamorgan unable to access private veterinary care. Shoppers at Waitrose in Barry also donated £800 to the charities.
Mr Cairns said: “I am incredibly grateful to everyone that has contributed to two fantastic local charities that help so many local residents. The amount raised of £8,393 for the PDSA and Macmillan is my highest yet, and it goes to show the generosity of residents of Barry and the Vale. I am also grateful to Waitrose for their support, and look forward to running again in 2016.”
