Vale MP Alun Cairns recently met with coaches and players in the Barry Mini League to discuss how Barry can benefit from improved artificial 4G facilities.
Mr Cairns is calling on next generation artificial pitches to be built in Barry to ensure fewer postponements of matches during the winter periods. At Bryn Hafren and Barry Comprehensive schools Mr Cairns met with teams from Barry, Rhoose, Llantwit Major and Cowbridge and spoke to coaches about the need for new 4G artificial surface facilities in Barry.
Teams from across the Vale of Glamorgan travel to play on pitches that are frequently deemed unplayable for young children – with teams not playing for many weeks during the winter months due to the poor state of the pitches. Coaches told Mr Cairns that an artificial surface available for the community year round was necessary to cope with the growth in demand of mini football in the Vale of Glamorgan.
Vale MP Alun Cairns said: “I have watched the mini football leagues in Barry on a number of occasions and I am very concerned about the quality of the pitches available. Barry is the largest town in Wales, and the principal town in the Vale – we really need to see the investment being made in providing players of field sports with a facility that the community can use. Sport Wales has made funding available for artificial 4G pitches to be built in the Vale. We need to plans put in place so that players of all ages and abilities don’t have to suffer another winter of postponements and poor playing surfaces.”
