Vale MP Alun Cairns is calling on all parties involved in the Barry Island Pleasure Park project to work together to find a conclusion to an agreement that will see a funfair on Barry Island in place for the summer period.
Mr Cairns has been in regular dialogue with site owners Barry Island Property Company (Hilco and Ian Rogers), the local authority and fun fair operator Henry Danter to try and find a solution to issues surrounding the project. The local District Valuer is now looking at the scheme as a whole at the request of the Vale of Glamorgan Council and further developments are expected in the next week.
Vale MP Alun Cairns said: “I still remain positive that the project will get off the ground. But now is the time to ensure all parties are working to find a solution that can satisfy the aims of those involved – it is that simple. I am fully behind the plans for the regeneration of Barry Island Pleasure Park, and the response from the community and local groups has been positive. However, positivity from the community is not a given – local residents will quite rightly grow tired of delays no matter what the reason may be.
He added: “If we are to see a top class fairground return to Barry in time for the summer season then urgent talks must take place that lead to action. What concerns me most about any further delay is that the reputational damage of Barry could suffer in the eyes other potential investors if this project becomes a saga. Ultimately, all the parties want to come to an agreement, and I am happy to assist in any way I can to ensure the regeneration of Barry Island can continue for the benefit of Barry and the wider Vale.”
