Vale MP Alun Cairns visited the popular Glamorgan Artistic Roller Skating Club to meet the members who competed in a nationwide skating competition last weekend. The volunteers took a minibus to Berkshire and returned laden with gold, silver and bronze medals.
Mr Cairns got his skates on to learn more about the challenges of running a club with over 80 members in a small facility at Colcot Leisure Centre. The Vale MP has called for the Vale Council to look at provision at Barry Leisure Centre to support the thriving club.
Mr Cairns said: “Having written to the leader of the Vale Council several months ago about provision for rollers skaters - volunteers and club members would like to know what the council can do to support this fantastic club. Colcot Sports Centre leaves members like goldfish in a bowl, and any concerns over the surface at Barry Leisure Centre can be resolved through dialogue. Dedicated volunteers take responsibility of over 80 children each and every week and they deserve an explanation on future plans for the support of roller skating in the Vale.”
