Vale MP Alun Cairns was annoyed to discover last week that services for a temporary Post Office service to Cowbridge appear to have been scrapped.
The local MP has received confirmation from the Post Office that due to ‘technical difficulties’ it is now unlikely that a temporary service will be introduced before the permanent solution is confirmed.
A number of avenues are being pursued for the permanent Post Office in Cowbridge but Mr Cairns is concerned that it will take time to train staff and refit premises when the final selection is made. This is why he has been calling for a temporary solution in the short term.
Alun said:
“I am annoyed at this outcome. I fail to understand why the Post Office cannot make a temporary facility available whilst a permanent solution is being confirmed. After all they will establish a temporary facility at various agricultural shows across Wales and elsewhere.
“Local businesses and residents in the Cowbridge area have lost an important facility. The Post Office provides a vital life line for many and some of our most vulnerable people depend on the service.
“The Post Office has told me that they are working with applicants who have expressed an interest in the Post Office on a permanent basis and hope to be able to finalise negotiations very soon.”
