Vale MP Alun Cairns and a number of local residents will join over 60 world leaders at the two day NATO summit in Newport this week.
Mr Cairns will be present in his Wales Office ministerial role to join the Prince of Wales at a reception being held on the first night of the conference. The reception is being hosted by the Prince of Wales at the request of Her Majesty’s Government at the Celtic Manor in Newport. The dinner is being used to thank the people of Wales for welcoming the largest gathering of world leaders ever seen in the UK.
Mr Cairns will also be hosting a table at a dinner with the Chancellor, Deputy Prime Minister and other Cabinet Ministers present on the opening night of the summit.
During the first day of the meeting Mr Cairns will be visiting a number of schools across South Wales with dignitaries to highlight the role of NATO, and he will be among the guests presenting bronze commemorative coins from the Royal Mint to pupils in 57 schools across the region.
Mr Cairns said: “The reception hosted by the Prince of Wales is a tremendous opportunity to show Wales in the best light possible. This event also allows the opportunity to visit schools and explain the role of NATO and present the specially commissioned commemorative coins to pupils which will be very rewarding. Importantly, the reception will host guests from the Vale of Glamorgan, and along with the local community it will be a privilege to present Wales to the World.”
