Alun Cairns Restoring Railways

Alun Cairns, MP for the Vale of Glamorgan, has met with the Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps MP and his deputy, Chris Heaton Harris MP, to discuss the case for a new train station in St Athan.

The Government has committed £500 million to restore trainlines and reopen stations throughout the Country. Mr Cairns discussed the opportunities at St Athan with both Ministers in a recent meeting in Westminster.

The fund will help reconnect smaller towns, assist in regenerating local economics and improve accessibility to jobs, homes and education.

Mr Cairns, said: “I am pleased to welcome this commitment to help improve transport links across the whole of Britain.

“St Athan is a clear choice for the investment, to help improve its connectivity to the wider area and Capital City.

“The investment will only be considered if there is widespread support from the local community.  We know local residents are supportive and so I am continuing my longstanding campaign with the Community and the Vale of Glamorgan Councils and Welsh Government to secure this investment”.
