Vale of Glamorgan MP, Alun Cairns, is arranging a plastics litter pick up on the Ogmore River on Saturday 12th May, from 10-11am. The event is part of the “Great Plastic Pickup” being held from 11-13th May across the UK.
Alun said of the event
“Like many I watched with grave concern Blue Planet 2 at the end of last year, with Sir David Attenborough detailing the huge problems plastic waste is causing in our oceans. I am delighted that the government is acting to reduce single use plastics and that so many other initiatives are now underway to try to reduce plastics reaching our oceans as quickly as possible.
My event on the 12th May is open to everyone who would like to come along from 10am to help clear the area around the Ogmore River. We will collect all rubbish we find, with an emphasis on ensuring plastic is removed and sent for recycling as far as possible.
I hope that others will take the opportunity to get involved with this initiative, and individuals or groups can arrange additional pick ups by visiting www.greatplasticpickup.org.”
Meeting point: Parking area near Portobello House, Ogmore by Sea, CF32 0PA
