Alun Cairns MP will be holding a public meeting on cuts to Bus Services in on Friday 22nd November 2013 at 6.15 pm at Highlight Park Community Centre. He is concerned about rumours that the Cardiff 98 Bus from Highlight Park to Barry Town Centre could be abolished.
The meeting has been called in response to local residents concerned about the cuts that have taken place and the prospect of further cuts. Mr Cairns said that he wanted to head off further planned cuts by the Welsh Government and the Vale council as they are planning their budget for next year.
The local MP has previously held two public meetings on cuts to bus services, one in Barry and one in Rhoose. Both were packed with concerned residents who have been left isolated as a result to the cuts in public transport.
Mr Cairns said he is concerned that there are plans for a further 25% cut to bus services in the council’s draft plans.
The local MP explained:
“This meeting is in response to the overwhelming number of calls that I have received from worried residents in the Highlight Park area who understand that the Local Authority are suggesting a further 25% cut in subsidies.
“All residents are welcome and I will be doing everything I can to support local residents throughout the Vale.
”We need to maintain pressure on the councillors and assembly members. The situation cannot carry on”.
