Vale MP Alun Cairns was angered to discover this week that the soonest a permanent site for Cowbridge Post Office will be operating is the ‘autumn’ after speaking with officials at the Post Office. Services for a temporary Post Office service to Cowbridge appear to have been scrapped, and a permanent functioning facility now looks months away.
The local MP has received confirmation from the Post Office that due to a ‘complex situation’ with the current interested parties a timescale of the ‘autumn’ is realistic.
Mr Cairns is seriously concerned that the community has been without an important service for a number of months, and is calling for a temporary solution to be re-considered in light of the new timescales. He had previously called for a temporary facility, similar to those that are set up at agricultural shows and summer festivals but the MP’s request was rejected. As a result of the further delay Alun Cairns has asked them to reconsider.
Alun Cairns MP said:
“Local businesses and residents in the Cowbridge area are still left without an important facility. The Post Office provides a vital life line for many and some of our most vulnerable people depend on the service. We need all parties to work together to find a solution, and I am challenging the Post Office to work closely with businesses, particularly independents, in Cowbridge to get the facility open as soon as possible.”
