Vale MP Alun Cairns said: “I welcome the application that has been submitted by the Barry Island Property Company and I hope it will result in a design that can re-invigorate the site of the Pleasure Park. I have been working with the stakeholders for many months in an attempt to find a solution for the site. Whatever has gone on before must now be put behind us. Anyone living locally, or travelling past the site wants to see a positive development and I will continue to offer my support to any person or operator that wants to attract visitors to the Island. I know what an important issue the Pleasure Park is for the local community, and the site is currently in a very sorry state so action clearly has to be taken.
Mr Cairns continued “Barry Island really is the jewel in the crown in Wales. I would have liked to have seen a grander plan that could have included Nell’s Point but where are we are, an iconic site can now be brought back into use and I hope sooner rather later.”
