The fifth ‘Cowbridge on the Run’ race for Cancer Research UK took place on Sunday 4th September raising almost £1,500 for the charity.
This year’s race excluded the village of Aberthin and was started by Vale MP and keen runner Alun Cairns, who also took part, setting a fast pace on the new route.
The event began as the male-only ‘Men on the Run’ race in 2011 to rival the nationwide female-only Race for Life’. It became ‘Cowbridge on the Run’ from the next year onwards due to high demand from women to enter.
Race organiser Ann Birt encouraged more local businesses to enter teams this year, with High Street fixtures such as Elephant and Bun Delicatessan, Bar 44 and HRT taking up the challenge.
Mrs Birt said, “The race this Sunday was one of the best. Cheerful runners from across the Vale and Cowbridge’s competitive High Street Teams contributed to a fantastic atmosphere for the event.”
Vale MP Alun Cairns added, “This event is quickly becoming one of the most important dates in the Cowbridge calendar – it is great fun for a great cause. Everyone who came had a smile on their face.
“Ann has done a great job of bringing the community together. The cheerfully competitive local business teams and the new route made this year’s race a particular joy to run.”
