Vale MP Alun Cairns met with a prospective new Post Office operator in Barry to discuss plans after Co-operative food stores announced the closure of the Post Office on Colcot Road. After the announcement by the Post Office, Mr Cairns met with Pam Dhesi from the nearby store to discuss the potential for the site to house a new postal facility.
Mr Cairns met with the Post Office in Barry last week to highlight the need for a seamless changeover, identify a site nearby and to work with the potential operators to ensure the popular facility is available to residents.
Pam Dhesi said: “I am keen to take over the running of the facility, and have spoken with the Post Office to register my interest. I have discussed the potential of the site with Alun Cairns, and explained that I have previously operated a successful Post Office. It is a natural fit for our store.”
Mr Cairns said: “I am very pleased that we have been able to identify a new site so quickly in Barry. The decision by the Co-op is disappointing, but to have such an experienced and capable operator in Pam and her team is very good news. I have been in touch with the Post Office to support the bid, and hope the Post Office can prioritise the changeover.
He added “The timing is crucial, I don’t want to see any loss of service during a changeover. In light of the challenges we have faced in Highlight Park – local residents need to be re-assured that postal services can be maintained and improved.”
