Vale MP Alun Cairns faced a difficult balancing act on Sa turday when he visited the new Treetop Challenge at the Amelia Trust Farm. Despite the challenging woodland adventure course featuring gruelling tree climbs, fast roping, slacklines and abseiling, the Secretary of State for Wales managed to stay steady and avoid a fall and an embarrassing climb-down.
The Treetop Challenge launched in April as a new addition to the Amelia Trust Farm site and provides excellent opportunities to individuals, children’s parties or corporate groups seeking an energetic, adrenaline filled day out. The trail was set up by Mike Stowell an expert in course design with 20 years climbing experience. He shouted encouragement to Mr Cairns as he tackled the challenge.
Alun Cairns said, “The successful Amelia Trust Farm does great work in the community and this new addition to their site will further enhance the appeal to visitors. The course was fantastic fun, and with zip lines, swings and tightropes it’s suitable for everyone from the novice to the full adrenaline junkie.
“Mike Stowell has done a fantastic job setting this up and I wish him every success as the Treetop Challenge expands.”
The course is situated in deciduous woodland adjacent to the main Amelia Trust Farm site off the Five Mile Lane near Barry. It costs £18 per person for the full course, £10 for a half course and individual activities start at £3 each.
The farm includes a cafeteria, WCs and opportunities to interact with farm animals.
