A local teenager, Eleri Borges, aged 15 hosted a coffee morning at Golau Caredig in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, which was held in the memory of her grandfather, Malcolm Borges, who died in 2008 having received care by Macmillan Cancer nurses in his final days.
A continual stream of people attended the coffee morning where hot drinks, and Eleri’s homemade cakes and biscuits were available. The coffee morning was a success having aimed to raise £150 but bypassed expectations by raising £162.11 all of which will be donated to Macmillan in order to support and further the care with which they provide.
Alun Cairns, the Member of Parliament for the Vale of Glamorgan attended the coffee morning and said that “It is hugely impressive to see a 15-year-old organise such as successful community event. I was very pleased to see local people pouring through the doors to support her efforts.
“Eleri is a credit to Barry, her kindness and thought for others is truly inspirational. Her cakes aren’t half bad either.”
