Barry community champions Susan Borges and Christine Tutton met Samantha Cameron at 10 Downing Street last week, having been nominated by local MP Alun Cairns.
Mrs Borges is a fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care, and has worked for a number of years to raise money to provide care for people with terminal illnesses.
Christine Tutton is the Chairperson of the RNLI Barry Dock Lifeboat Fundraising Branch, and has raised thousands for the organisation over many years.
Both were invited to Downing Street as part of a Charity Champions reception which celebrated their work in the local community.
Alun Cairns and Samantha Cameron heaped praise on them for their achievements.
Alun said, “Susan and Christine deserve huge credit for all of the work they have done, and I was delighted to introduce them to Samantha Cameron. She was extremely impressed and paid tribute to them for the work they have done.
“They give up so much of their time to help Marie Curie and the RNLI, and we in the Vale are all proud of them.”
Samantha Cameron commented, “It was a privilege to meet Susan Borges and Christine Tutton from Marie Curie and the RNLI at 10 Downing Street. Their amazing work is changing the lives of individuals and families across Barry and it was an honour to celebrate their work at the reception for charity champions.”
Susan Borges said, “It was a real honour to meet Samantha Cameron at Downing Street and to tell her about the work Marie Curie does. The organisation relies on many hardworking volunteers and I was pleased to see this recognised.”
Christine Tutton added, “Samantha Cameron was very complimentary about the work we all do at the RNLI in Barry. Everybody in the organisation can be proud of all that they have done.”
