Vale MP Alun Cairns joined local residents from Treetops in Gibbonsdown for a rubbish clear up after the neighbours grew concerned at the amount of rubbish in the area. Mr Cairns arranged to visit with a team to clear many bags of household rubbish and came across items such as used needles and dog mess.
Treetops resident Andrew Ellis and friends, along with Mr Cairns spent a number of hours clearing the area and gathered 8 bags of litter from just a small area of Gibbonsdown. The residents had contacted Mr Cairns after bins went unemptied and the rubbish had piled up over a lengthy period.
Mr Cairns said: “I was shocked to see the amount of rubbish strewn across the Treetops area in Barry. I am grateful to the local neighbours for drawing it to my attention, and we made a very good attempt at clearing the mess. What was rather disturbing was seeing used needles in an area where children play and residents walk their dogs. I have contacted the local authority to request that this area be reassessed to try and keep on top of the problem.”
