Unemployment Falls Yet Again

Unemployment in Barry and the Vale has fallen to a claimant count of 3.7%, according to the latest data from the Office of National Statistics. Vale MP, Alun Cairns has welcomed the news stating that he was pleased to see the long term economic plan having a real impact locally. 

MP Visits Elder Abuse Awareness Event

Alun Cairns MP last week called in to support the Vale 50+ Strategy Forum Elder Abuse Awareness event at Gwenog Court, Barry.This year’s event follows on from the successful exhibition held in Barry Library. The Vale MP and visitors were able to find out useful information from organisations such as Prostate Cancer UK, Age Connects Advocy Team, I.T Support, VOGC Community Safety and Telecare in the Vale.

Barry residents Jean and Sid Pycroft, joined Alun Cairns MP in a visit to Number 10 Downing Street in honour of their outstanding contribution to SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death from Epilepsy).

Local Resident to get Ushakov Medal

On the day that the D-Day commemorations were being marked, Local MP Alun Cairns visited 90 year old Roy Williams to deliver the news that he was to be awarded the Ushakov Medal for his services during the Second World War. Alun had been approached by Roy Williams following a story that had been run by the Gem in November 2012.

Local Fundraiser Visits Parliament

Local Marie Curie Cancer Care fundraiser, Susan Borges and her sister Karen visited Parliament last week for a tour of the Palace of Westminster.This year, Marie Curie Nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals will care for more than 2,250 people with a terminal illness as well as provide support for their families across Wales. Across the UK, Marie Curie provide care that is free of charge and available to anyone with any terminal illness, not just cancer.

Local Resident Enjoys Work Experience

Fourteen year old Nils Langlois from Troes recently completed a week’s work experience in the local MPs constituency office in Barry.Vale MP said that he was extremely impressed with Nils, who reminded him of William Hague who addressed the Conservative Party conference at the same age.

National Citizen Service Scheme Launched in Wales

A new National Citizen Service (NCS) is being launched in Wales over the coming months local MP, Alun Cairns has confirmed.The local MP said that the NCS helps 16 and 17 year olds from different backgrounds build skills for work and life, as young people take on new challenges and meet new friends. Running through spring, summer and autumn participants spend a short time away from home and take part in a team project that will help the community.

Statement From Alun Cairns MP Regarding The T9 Service

Alun Cairns MP Vale of Glamorgan has welcomed the news that the Vale Council has accepted notice from First Cymru to terminate their contract to provide the T9 express bus route to Cardiff Airport and is calling for the opportunity to be used to reduce the frequency so that money saved can be used on local bus routes.

New Rules Will Help Secure A Fair Deal For Pubs in The Vale of Glamorgan

Alun Cairns MP has welcomed the announcement of new rules to ensure that tied pubs are given a fair deal by pub companies, which he believes will help prevent further closure of local hostelries.The statutory code will give pub landlords running tied pubs new rights to help them get a fair deal from pub companies. The rules will be enforced by an independent adjudicator with the power to punish pub companies that break them.
